Min-Ga Korean Restaurant

For this week’s adventure, we tried something entirely new for us! We love trying new cuisines, so we headed over to Bethel road, where they have a plethora of different flavors.

Min-Ga Korean Restaurant stood out, as we had never tried Korean cuisine before! The storefront is nestled into a small strip mall along bethel. Although it seems small, they have two full dining rooms behind those doors.

The restaurant was bustling and full of excitement when we visited on a weekday night. The servers directed us towards a small table in the back, and we began peeking around at everyone else’s food. Tables with only two people were overflowing with food, and steam rose from the stone pots as they were served.

After looking at the menu and realizing we would just have to jump in and try something random, josh decided to ask what the most popular dishes were. She pointed out that bi-bim-bab and beef bulgoki(bolgogi) are frequently ordered items.

After much debate, we decided on a seafood pancake, beef bulgogi, and beef kalbi. When I tell you we had leftovers for days, I mean literal days.

The seafood pancake was gigantic in size and filling in the stomach. It almost reminded me of a baked egg casserole. You can taste all the components, from the shrimp to the calamari. Putting the sauce on top was a game-changer, though. If you don’t like seafood, they have options with different additives! Josh took this home and did the leftovers, and they weren’t bad!! Since it was seafood, I assumed it would be a little weird reheated, but not at all.

Both the beef bulgogi and the kalbi were delicious. The bulgogi seemed slightly spicier and had somewhat more flavor, so that might have been the favorite. But both portions of meat were tender and had their own type of flavor going on. Alongside the meats come tons of little garnishes to add flavor and depth to the proteins.. although I have no idea what some of them were, our consensus is that much of it was yummy! We ate the garnishes almost separate from the meats, though, because the meat’s flavor was so good we didn’t want to add more to it.

It all was delicious.. but my favorite part was finding my new favorite drink! I love partaking in a little social alcoholic beverage, but alcohol doesn’t always like me. My stomach has issues. But when I saw their Korean peach rice wine had a low alcohol content and one of my favorite flavors, I had to try it! My consensus was that I loved it, obviously. Along with the solid peach flavor, I got the tiniest alcohol-induced warm fuzzy feeling, and then I got to take it home to have some for later! I have since looked it up online so I could buy it at the house. Josh had a rice wine with me, although his was a much higher alcohol content. They also carried different sake and other beverages!

For being our first “official” time going to a Korean restaurant, we thought the experience went pretty well!! We want to keep expanding our palette, so if you know of any other great Korean spots, let us know! We would love to chat about your favorite dishes and try them too!

Until next week, happy exploring!
