We went in for lunch but left with chocolate because how can you not while visiting the Chocolate Cafe? It was our first visit to the small cafe in Upper Arlington, where the options seemed endless. With sandwiches, soups, and salads galore, the possibilities extend to beverages and sweets! If you want lunch, an alcoholic beverage, and maybe a cheesecake to finish it off, the Chocolate Cafe might be your spot!
Owner Lisa started the cafe in 2007 with her sister, Robyn. The small restaurant made its desserts in-house alongside meals to serve the Upper Arlington community. Now, German Village has its own slice of Chocolate, with the Cholocate Cafe Express off of S. High Street.
They are serving up so much at Chocolate Cafe, so let’s dive right in! When entering, the small space can almost feel overwhelming. The left wall is dominated by a large shelving unit filled with goods to take on the go. The shelves were lined with so many bags of pumpkin-chocolate-covered pretzels alongside caramel popcorn, and so much more that I couldn’t take it all in. Glass cases took over the opposite wall with, you guessed it, desserts. Chocolate candies, cheesecakes, and other desserts are waiting for your perusal. Behind the counter where you order is a giant board filled with breakfast, lunch, or dinner possibilities. Also on the board are a selection of coffees, smoothies, malts, milkshakes, and alcoholic beverages.
We jumped right in with sandwich and soup combos. Josh opted for the chicken cobb wrap, which, looking back, he wished he had picked a wrap that wasn’t so much like a salad. I chose the turkey, cheese, and apple sandwich and loved the fall feeling it gave. His potato soup and my lobster bisque hit the mark. However, Josh must have felt picky that day because he wasn’t a fan of either soup. We rounded out all our “healthy” eating with a malt each and a chunk of toffee. Now, this, Josh was impressed with. He has now announced he prefers malts over milkshakes. We must return for their seasonal drinks because those intrigued me. Another Cafe is under the belt, and we can’t wait to find our next spot!
