Since it’s the week of Thanksgiving, we decided to forgo a restaurant and headed out to Pickerington to make a craft with AR Workshop. The possibility of creating something together without having to gather all the supplies ourselves was extremely appealing. Within two hours, we had completed a piece for our home that we will use for years to come!
With locations in Worthington and Pickerington, AR Workshop spans all across the United States with over 130 locations! The first storefront began as a showcase for graphic design but eventually turned into a DIY paradise. Not only can you attend the classes to make your own creations, but you can also buy pre-made items made in-house. Projects vary from wood and canvas projects to pouring candles or making blankets!
First things first, head to their website and choose your location. Then, look at their event calendar to help decide which workshop you want to attend. From there, you will click on the workshop and see all the crafting options available during that workshop. Once you find a craft that appeals to you, you go through the booking process with all your information and reserve your slot! The price listed is not only for the instruction that will be given but also for all the supplies needed for your craft. If you want to work on a project with another person, you must choose a project over $79. Want to try out a craft but don’t want to do it in a group? You can select some projects as a DIY to-go kit and make it from the comfort of your home!
Since it was our first time, we chose to work on one project together. With the holidays right around the corner and minimal outdoor decorations for our home, we decided on a Christmas countdown porch sign! We knew the chalkboard countdown space would be fun for us and the neighborhood kids. The project started as a plain piece of wood that we had to sand and paint. We applied a stencil and painted again to make the words nice and crisp. Peeling up the stencil to reveal the result was simultaneously terrifying and exciting. We loved how it turned out and saw so many other projects we would want to do next time!
