Columbus Symphony at Headley Park

As a lover of all types of music, it was time to introduce Josh to his first symphony show. The Columbus Symphony of Ohio hosts a summer concert series around Greater Columbus throughout the warmer months. With some of the performances being free, it allows everyone to experience a symphony show! They performed at Headley, Dodge, Barack, Driving Park, and more this year.

So we packed our folding chairs and headed to Headley Park for a night of music and good times! The performance at Headley was a paid event, with options for individual tickets and tables for groups. We spent roughly eighteen dollars each for about two hours of music! The tickets did not include food or drink, but there was a drink tent alongside several food trucks in case you felt peckish.

We were amazed at the amount of families present! People of all ages from children to adults were there to enjoy the live music and take in nature. The playground was within eyesight for any kids that needed to let out some energy, yet far enough away that the concert drowned out the sounds of them playing.

Parking and checking in was quick and easy, making the search for a spot to sit the most challenging part of the evening. We found a place next to the food trucks, ordered our hibachi for dinner, and settled in. The symphony started the night with a few “classical classics” before leading into Disney favorites, Star Wars and ABBA. In between each of the songs, the conductor took a moment to introduce them and give a little background on the next piece. I love the symphony for not only the gorgeous sounds of the instruments, but the passion with which the musicians play. The first chair violinist was one of my favorites this time, with her body and instrument becoming one and moving with the music. The sounds of the symphony, paired with the sun setting behind the trees, were a perfect change of pace for us.

I can’t say that Josh has played classical music – just to listen to since. Still, it did open him up to seeing more symphony performances in the future! We even chatted about musicals and seeing the ballet this fall and winter. I am definitely introducing him to Wicked, as it’s one of my favorites.

But what are your favorite shows and performances to attend? We need suggestions!
