I have been a frequent visitor of the downtown area of Gahanna, known as Creekside, throughout my life. From shopping at the small shops and diners to enjoying the water activities, Creekside has always been a place for me to relax, especially during the summer. Recently, I have been visiting Creekside more often and I am amazed at the development that has taken place over the past decade.
The central water feature, shown in the picture above, underwent construction in the mid-2000s and has now been transformed into a beautiful display of limestone sourced from Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. Walking along the water, you can weave through the different downtown storefronts and descend into the creek, giving you a sense of being surrounded by nature. There is also a newly developed park area that has become a wonderful addition to the downtown area. The walk along Creekside is serene, and when it’s time to grab a bite, there are plenty of dining options available. Cafe Creekside has been a longtime favorite, and newer establishments like Local Cantina and Barrel & Boar have also become popular. Nostalgia Brewing Company is another great addition to the downtown area. A visit to Creekside is not complete for me without stopping by Coldstone Creamery to support my friend and, of course, to enjoy some delicious ice cream.
Recently, my mom and I attended the Jazz Festival, one of the monthly events at Creekside. We listened to live jazz music, savored food from amazing vendors, and even went kayaking down the creek. During another weekend event, I had the opportunity to give away a free TV and promote Howard-Hanna/HER before a live band performed. These festivals are usually free and live music performances are common on summer weekends, making it a great outing for the entire family. Keep an eye on their website and Facebook page for upcoming live shows or festivals such as Creepside, the haunted October Halloween event!
