Many Irish pubs strive to be authentic, but Fado takes it to the next level. The Irish-born group of owners that came to the United States in 1996 partnered with The Irish Pub Company to design and import all pieces of the restaurant from Dublin, Ireland. The first location in Atlanta was designed to combine the homey Irish pub with influences from around the globe to bring together people of all cultures. The Easton location was built shortly after in 1999, while Dublin is still one of the newest in the franchise.
Easton is right around the corner from our home, so that is often our go-to. The pub is full of dark wood and separated into four quadrants, all with a different feel. There are romantic, dimly lit booths in one corner while hightops sit across from the bar in another. The bar boasts local beers alongside Irish ones, and whiskey covers the wall behind it. The entire place feels cozy and intimate, even in the bar area.
We chose a hightop by the bar and indulged in every way. We both started the meal with a Smore’s Hot Chocolate that we can’t wait to attempt to recreate at home. Bailey’s Irish Creme, toasted marshmallows, and a graham cracker rim made it a dangerously delicious cocktail. The indulgence continued with the smoked salmon bite appetizer. The cold salmon battled with the hot potato it sat on, while onions and capers added a salty flavor. It was delicious, but we both were starving, so the four bites were not enough.
Finally, the main event arrived, and we were beyond satisfied. I had corned beef and Swiss flatbread for lunch, a delicious but light sandwich. The potato wedges on the side were deliciously crunchy, which is always a struggle for wedges. Josh’s meal stole the show, though. He ate the shepherd’s pie, and I was jealous after tasting a couple of bites. The meat, sauce, and mashed potato combo was perfection. I will be ordering that next time. It’s one of the best shepherd’s pies in Columbus, for sure! We both had leftovers to take home for dinner, which is always a win in my book!
