Gahanna Farmers Market

UPDATE:     The Gahanna Farmer’s Market has been closed for the 2024 season. Hopefully we will see the return of the market in the coming years. For now, check out these other local markets around town

Whitten’s Farm Stand: Agler Rd, Gahanna. Open daily 9am-7pm.

New Albany Famers Market: Market Square, New Albany. Open Thursdays 4pm-7pm through August 29th.

Westerville Farmers Market: 21 S. State Street, Westerville. Open Saturdays 9am-noon.

Worthington Farmers Market: Old Worthington Historic District. Open Saturdays 8am-noon through October.

This summer, we have spent time planning quite a few of our dinners around the local produce that is in season. As a result, we have had some of the most appetizing meals lately. That could be the placebo effect talking, but either way, it’s a win in our book! We have been doing this by checking out local farms and farmer markets to get our produce and some meats.

Before going to the markets this summer, we had no idea what we would be walking in to. So, we created our first ever “series” – the Farmers Market Series. Scattered throughout the usual content, we will try to visit several local farmer’s markets to give you the scoop you need to know before you go!

For the first week of the series, we hit our local market here in Gahanna! The summer market takes over the parking lot adjacent to the Gahanna Sanctuary and spills inside. In addition to multiple local farms selling their produce, there were butchers, candlemakers, bakers, artists, and more! Parking is scattered about, but there is plenty in Gahanna. There are several spots to park along the streets, or you could park in the garage and take a short walk to the sanctuary. We parked by our favorite café and took the opportunity to walk on a breezy day.

We always begin our market trips with a lap around to see what items we could use to make weekly meals. This time we grabbed a cold drink from the wagon at the front and perused the produce. With zucchini and carrots in hand, we made a few extra purchases – per usual.

Josh is a salsa fiend, so we headed to Jose Madrid’s tent to check out their choices. Not only did they have many different ones, but they also gave us samples of so many! Their business started off in Zanesville, but they now get to travel to different states to showcase their salsa. We ended up leaving with four different jars, the roasted garlic & olive being our favorite. Our second extra purchase this week was a candle for the living room! E Pluribus LTD. had the most amazing Halloween-themed candles, but I had to resist. The Edgar Allen Poe ones were to die for and will sell out quickly (so we hear)! Instead of caving to the fall smells, we picked a fresh lavender and sage scent. Although they were not the cheapest candles, they were gorgeously handmade and smelled delicious.

A notable mention (because we still had cheese leftover) must go to Ohio Farm Direct. We have gotten their cheese too many times to count now. My personal favorite is their horseradish flavor; it is just unbeatable. You must slice or grate the cheese yourself, but it is well worth it.

Most vendors will accept cards, cash, or Venmo and provide bags for their products. However, we highly recommend bringing another, slightly thicker bag to put all your goods or smaller bags into. Which farmers market do we hit next?
