Habanero's Fresh Mexican Grill

After dancing last week, our stomachs were growling, so we made our way a few doors down to Habaneros Fresh Mexican Grill. Our dance instructor had raved about their giant margaritas, so we weren’t expecting what we walked into. We imagined a full sit-down restaurant but stepped in to find a counter to order at. We were surprised but not disappointed after tasting their flavors!

Three siblings formed the local Hilliard eatery in 2016 and have expanded since. They now have two Hilliard locations, as well as one in Grandview. With the newest addition of the Grandview location, they decided to shake things up. That location is more of a sit-down restaurant featuring the same menu and a few new additions!

When looking at the menu, it is incredibly straightforward, although massive. It offers a large handful of customizable items with various proteins. With everything from tacos and burritos to tortas and quesadillas, there are options for everyone. They even have wings on the menu and other specialty items. Save room for dessert, too! They had so many sweets, and they all looked spectacular!

I opted for a couple of different street tacos while Josh asked the cashier for her favorite item; no surprise. He ordered the steak torta, which was basically like a Mexican-style hot sub. After ordering, we got our drinks and found a table to wait. A few minutes later, one of the workers delivered our food, and we dug in! Josh’s torta was bursting with flavor. Even though it had multiple ingredients that weren’t my favorite, I took numerous bites of his torta. Both my fish and steak tacos were delicious, and my only complaint is that I didn’t order more! Sides do not automatically come with your tacos or torta, so we ordered some chips and salsa on the side. The salsa was slightly spicy for those who don’t mess with spice, but it was just the right amount for us.

While we didn’t indulge in a margarita or traditional dessert this time, we had to order a cup of horchata to take home. Horchata is one of our favorites, with the rice milk and cinnamon perfectly accompanying one another. We fought each other for sips of it the whole drive home. Another Mexican restaurant is under our belt, literally and figuratively, and we have yet to be disappointed! Can’t wait to go check out their newest location in Grandview to see all the differences!
