This week’s activity comes along with a little personal announcement! Skate Zone 71, our first date spot, JUST became where we got engaged!
Just over two years ago, a guy from my hometown messaged me on Facebook asking if I knew how to stop on skates. I invited him to their weekly “adult skate night” at Skate Zone, and we have been inseparable ever since. Now, he really can’t get rid of me!
I first discovered Skate Zone 71 when I took up skating during COVID. Skate Zone was always my spot to skate when it was too cold or rainy. I loved that they had so many options when it came to sessions. Whether it’s a family outing or you are just learning the ropes, they have something for everyone. Their beginner sessions help ease any tensions when you are first starting. You can learn without having a million advanced skaters zooming past you.
My personal favorite session is the adult skate nights on Thursdays and Sundays. They start late and end late, but the music is constantly bumping, and smiles are everywhere. For both family and adult nights, they frequently do themed nights! They have a glow party this Friday, and Saturday has an under-the-sea theme. In the past, they have had carts of glowing and light-up toys for the kids for the glow parties!
Skate Zone 71 has been operating for years, formally known as USA Skates, and is just one of a few skating rinks around the area. However, it has made some significant changes in the last few years! When you enter, be sure to fill out their waiver using the QR code. (Pro Tip: if you bring your own skates, you save $5.) Inside, the disco balls light up the skating rink off to the left. The old coin-operated lockers are now touchscreen ones. On the other side are games for the kids and a laser tag room. It looks like they recently added a glow bouncy house too!
We loved that COVID gave us and so many others the chance to find this hobby. Now, because of that, places like Skate Zone 71 can stay in our communities and be a place to escape! When was the last time you skated? When’s the next?
