We always look for an intriguing menu when finding new places to visit. So when Josh saw a PB&J burger at a bar in Marysville, we knew we had to check it out. Josh has had a peanut butter burger before and wanted to compare the two and see what adding jelly and sliced strawberries would do to the flavor. The Half Pint has a bar atmosphere, with high-top tables and 40 craft beers on tap. The bar food continues on the menu but with a fun twist. All their burgers feature a wagyu beef patty and unique toppings to go with it. Even the typical bar appetizers each include an elevated ingredient to take it to the next level.
After opening in 2016, their unique burgers caught the attention of different news outlets and won them the best bite of the week on Fox. The Half Pint may seem reminiscent of The Pint House in Columbus, which makes sense as it is the child of The Pint House! In addition to tasting and trying new and local Ohio beers, you can fill up a full growler of 64 ounces (or a half growler!) of your favorite beers to take home. We were in the middle of a work day, so we didn’t get the chance to have a drink, but boy, did we peruse. They had all sorts of fall beers, seltzers, sours, and meads on the menu that caught my eye. They had the standard pumpkin flavors and included some different pie flavors, too! Being huge fans of Brussels sprouts and miso, we had to try their crispy miso brown butter and siracha honey Brussels sprouts. At first bite, we could taste the sweetness of the honey, but as we continued to chew, the tiny bit of spice kicked in and alleviated some of that sweetness. The butter gave an umami flavor to balance it all out. The crispiness was not there, however. Having cooked many Brussels, I know how hard it can be to create the perfect crispiness, but they missed the mark. I would be raving about them if they had a bit more crisp!
Josh’s burger came out perfectly cooked and provided a sweet but salty flavor, although messy. But what good burger isn’t messy? Josh opted for sweet potato fries as his side, and they were yummy, but the dipping sauce made them so much better. Still, on my health kick, I went for a salad. But this wasn’t just any salad; it was chocked full of onions, bacon, blue cheese, and tomatoes and topped with a wagyu beef patty and potato wedges sticking off the side. Their house-made vinaigrette was the star of the salad. It had such a good flavor that I even dipped my potato wedges in it, and we both agreed that it made them overly delicious. I ordered my patty medium, which came out a little closer to well done but still had plenty of juice I didn’t mind. My salad was one of my favorites in a while, and I have to say that the bleu cheese and unique vinaigrette combo made it hop to the top of my list. With a couple of alterations, this meal could have been a home run. If we visit Marysville in the future, we wouldn’t be opposed to stopping by to try more of it and give it another run!
