The Top Steak House

It’s no secret that Columbus is a foodie’s dream come true. Central Ohio is an epicenter for new concepts and delicious flavors. But sometimes, the best tastes can come from the oldest establishments.

 

The Top Steak House in Bexley hasn’t changed much since its beginnings in 1955. The dim lighting inside, paired with the wood-paneled walls and leather, transports you back in time. As if the aesthetic wasn’t enough, add in the live piano every night, occasionally played by the same pianist from the 60s.

 

The building isn’t the only thing that hasn’t changed all these years later. They are still as busy as ever, so a reservation is definitely recommended. Back in the 50s, they had phone jacks installed at the tables for important business calls… hard to imagine with our portable cell phones these days.

 

The need for reservations becomes apparent the moment you sit down. The staff was knowledgeable and kind. Aside from our server, we had different server assistants filling our waters and immediately clearing empty plates. This all plays a part in a fantastic meal, but the star needs to be the actual food. And boy was this steak, the STAR.

 

Hannah has been to several of Columbus’ steak houses, and a great steak is one of our favorites, so we have high expectations in this department. The Top didn’t just deliver but exceeded expectations. We haven’t written about a restaurant (so far) that we haven’t liked. But The Top deserves rave reviews. We did nothing fancy to our steaks and didn’t add any extra toppings, thinking we would adventure into that next time. WOW. We did not need a THING. The steak melted in your mouth and had so much flavor all on its own. The sides were spectacular, but they really let the steak be the star of the dish. We will be going back… and it has claimed Hannah’s #1 spot for best steakhouses in Columbus.

 

 

Go there for your next birthday, date night, celebration, or Tuesday night dinner out (a little pricy but hey, do you). You will not be disappointed.
